Description

How a recovery focus and a peer workforce improve your bottom line and the value of your services.  The Mental Health Center of Denver is the national center of excellence for recovery focused community mental health, and Roy Starks has been part of this work for the past twenty-eight years. PEOPLe, Inc., of which Steve Miccio is CEO, has been instrumental in helping people transition from hospitalization and/or avoid expensive emergency department and in-patient stays through the help of staff with lived experience.  Both programs demonstrate that recovery focused work is better for the people we serve and also cost effective.  Roy and Steve currently serving as Chair and Chair Elect of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.  Both presenters have extensive experience in directing programs as well as experience in consultation and training for others.  This course is directed to practitioners and administrators who are interested in learning more about reducing cost while improving outcomes for the people we serve.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss practical information from a large urban community mental health center which has implemented recovery transformation.
  • Explain how training non-licensed staff in the recovery model reduces cost and improves outcomes.
  • Explain the value of the PRA certification program.
  • Reduce hospitalizations and other expensive services by employing staff with lived experience.
  • Explain how peer specialists can be valuable in two very different settings, a community mental health center and a stand alone provider.
