On September 16 ad 17, 2013 PRA members joined with their colleagues in the mental health community including National Council and NAMI to raise awareness on Capitol Hill on important issues to our members and consumers. In particular, PRA advocates called on the federal government to:
- Establish federal status for community behavioral health organizations and adopt the Excellence in Mental Health Act
- Support the Mental Health First Aid Act and promote public education on mental illness and addiction
- Make behavioral health providers eligible for Health IT incentives under the Behavioral Health IT Act
- Protect funding for mental health services in health care reform, Medicaid, and SAMHSA
PRA was proud to partner with our colleagues in the mental health community on this important event and we applaud everyone who took the time to come to DC for an important event.
We hope you’ll join us for Hill Day in 2014! We’ll email details as soon as the dates are announced. In the meantime, learn how you can advocate throughout the year by checking out David Sanders’, PRA Board Member, article, “Public Policy Advocacy and People in Recovery.”
