Hey, Wait a Second Amendment!

This TED-like talk will focus on the relationship between mental health and guns. Discussion will explore the ways in which stigma affects community perceptions of gun violence and how individuals with mental health experiences are characterized. Included in the presentation will be a review of myths and realities regarding access to firearms, limitations in policies regarding assault-type weapons, and potential policies that support Second Amendment rights while still being mindful of community and personal safety. Potential partnerships between psychiatric rehabilitation programs, first responders, and law enforcement agencies to facilitate positive advancements in this area will be described.
