The mental health field has a long history of ignoring or pathologizing spirituality and religion. Yet research over the past 10 years has established that spirituality and religion are important social and coping resources for many consumers of mental health services. They are also significant factors in addressing and healing the impact of trauma. This workshop weaves the value of supporting spiritual practices in recovery through weaving spirituality into a trauma-informed care lens. The practices are culturally relevant and personally meaningful as individuals are increasingly empowered to take responsibility for their own wellness and recovery.
