Basics of Ethics and Ethical Decision-Making

Regardless of one's discipline, ethical practice is a universal expectation. This presentation offers an introduction to ethics for entry-level providers, beginning with a review of key terms related to ethics and discussion of common moral principles underlying most ethics codes. The workshop also includes explanation of the purposes, limitations, and components of ethics codes, as well clarification about the differences between ethics codes and laws. An overview of the various ethical decision-making models is included, with a focus on learning one such model in depth. The session involves practice in applying a decision-making model using case examples.
