Avoiding Social Security Enrollment for Transition Age Youth & Young Adults: Preventing "System Effects"

You are here

Saturday, June 24 / 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

This discussion will focus on the short-term and long-term implications of assisting young people to apply for social security when entering mental health services.  All too commonly, the application to SSA is a rote practice when beginning community mental health services.  This discussion will engage participants to consider the cascading affects of SSA application on identity development, role development, implications for short and long-term self-sufficiency, and cultivating reliance on the mental health and public service system.
